One Half-Eaten Apple.
A Lifetime of Compassion.

Every organization has a beginning. Ours began with a hungry little boy, half an apple, and a single act of compassion that changed countless lives.

One Half-Eaten Apple.
A Lifetime of Compassion.

Every organisation has a beginning. Some begin with funding. Others begin with a business plan. Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda began with a hungry little boy, half an apple and one unforgettable act of generosity.

CHAPTER ONE

Success Looked Different

Before Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda existed, Peter Waiswa had built a successful career as an accountant in Uganda's banking and finance industry.

From the outside, life appeared to be moving in the right direction. He had a respected profession, a promising future and opportunities that many young people dream of.

Yet every morning, while driving through Kampala on his way to work, he saw another Uganda.

Children sleeping on pavements. Children begging at traffic lights. Children whose tomorrow depended upon the kindness of strangers.

He noticed them every day. Like many people, he felt sympathy. But sympathy had never interrupted his journey.

CHAPTER TWO

A Traffic Light Changed Everything

One ordinary day in 2018, Peter stopped at a traffic light.

As he waited for the signal to change, a young street boy approached his window.

Quietly and respectfully, the boy asked if Peter could give him some money to buy something to eat.

Peter smiled sadly and replied,

"I don't have any money today. In fact... I am hungry too."

For a brief moment, there was silence.

Then the little boy did something Peter would never forget.

He reached into his small worn-out bag.

Inside was half an apple.

Carefully, he stretched it through the car window.

Looking Peter in the eyes, he simply said…

"If you are hungry and don't have what to eat… don't worry. I have got the both of us covered."

Peter was speechless.

The little boy had almost nothing. No home. No parents. No certainty about tomorrow. No guarantee of his next meal.

Yet he possessed something many people with abundance never discover.

He was free to trust. Free to love. Free to give.

That simple act of generosity challenged everything Peter believed about success, wealth and purpose.

He drove away carrying far more than half an apple.

He drove away carrying a new calling.

CHAPTER THREE

Choosing a Different Path

The image of the little boy remained with Peter long after that day. He could not forget the child who had almost nothing, yet was willing to share everything he had.

Slowly, Peter realised that his greatest investment would not be in finance, but in people.

He made the courageous decision to leave the banking and finance industry and dedicate his life to serving vulnerable children and communities.

This decision led to the establishment of Such As I Have Foundation, where he began working directly with children facing difficult circumstances and families living in poverty.

What had begun with one child's unexpected generosity was now becoming a life devoted to compassion.

CHAPTER FOUR

Compassion Became a Movement

Peter's journey later brought him to theGlobal Compassion Coalition (GCC), where he became part of the Connectors Program—a global community of people committed to serving others through practical acts of compassion.

Through this community he formed meaningful friendships with people who shared the same vision of restoring dignity and creating opportunities for vulnerable communities.

Among them was Tinah, whose encouragement and friendship strengthened the growing vision of building bridges of compassion across communities and nations.

Peter was later entrusted with serving as theNational Coordinator of the Global Compassion Coalition Connectors Program in Uganda, helping connect compassionate people and organisations working to create lasting change.

Along this journey, many others became part of the vision. Among them was Christine, whose passion for supporting vulnerable children, women and families became an important contribution to what would eventually become Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda.

CHAPTER FIVE

The Story Continues

Today, Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda works to improve access to education, empower women and widows, strengthen livelihoods, promote health, develop vocational skills and restore hope to vulnerable communities.

Every child who remains in school...

Every woman who rebuilds her life...

Every volunteer who serves...

Every partner who walks alongside us...

...is writing the next chapter of this story.

The little boy who shared half an apple will probably never know how many lives his generosity has touched.

His kindness became the seed of a movement that today continues restoring dignity, building brighter futures and creating bridges of compassion across Uganda and beyond.

"

Compassion is not measured by how much we have, but by how willing we are to share what little we possess.

From Banking to Building Bridges of Hope

The encounter with the little street boy remained with Peter long after he drove away that day. He could not forget the generosity of a child who had almost nothing, yet freely offered the little he had.

That moment became a turning point in his life. It challenged his understanding of success and inspired him to pursue a life dedicated to serving vulnerable children and communities.

Peter made the courageous decision to leave the banking and finance industry and devote himself to humanitarian work. He foundedSuch As I Have Foundation, where he began working closely with children living in vulnerable circumstances and families facing significant challenges.

His passion for compassion and community transformation later led him to join the Global Compassion Coalition (GCC), an international movement connecting people who are committed to serving others through practical acts of compassion.

Through the GCC Connectors Program, Peter met compassionate leaders from different parts of the world. Among them was Tinah, whose encouragement and friendship strengthened the growing vision of serving communities through collaboration rather than working alone.

As his leadership and commitment continued to grow, Peter was entrusted with serving as theNational Coordinator of the Global Compassion Coalition Connectors Program in Uganda, helping connect individuals, organizations and communities that share a common desire to transform lives through compassion.

Along this journey, Peter was joined by many committed people who shared the same vision. Among them wasChristine, whose passion for supporting vulnerable children, women and communities became an important part of the growing movement that would later become Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda.

When One Act of Compassion Inspired Many More

Children thanking Davina for supporting their education

Peter's journey of compassion continued to grow through the Global Compassion Coalition Connectors Program, where meaningful friendships became opportunities to transform lives.

One of those friendships was withDavina from Australia. Although separated by thousands of kilometres, they shared a common belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and build a better future.

Through this partnership, together with other compassionate supporters, school fees were provided for41 vulnerable children, enabling them to remain in school and continue their education.

For these children, education was more than attending classes. It represented hope. It represented opportunity. It represented a future.

The photograph of smiling children proudly holding a banner reading

"THANK YOU DAVINA"

reminds us that compassion knows no borders. One caring person can inspire another. One friendship can transform many lives. One act of kindness can become a movement.

THE BIRTH OF COMPASSION BRIDGE INITIATIVE UGANDA

Building Bridges of Hope

The story of Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda is not the story of one individual. It is the story of compassion being passed from one person to another until it became a movement.

Inspired by the life-changing encounter with the little boy, years of serving vulnerable children and communities, and the friendships built through the Global Compassion Coalition, a vision began to emerge.

That vision was simple but profound:

To restore dignity, create opportunities and build resilient communities where every person can live with hope.

From that vision, Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda was established.

Today, the organisation works alongside communities to improve access to quality education, empower widows and vulnerable women, strengthen livelihoods, promote health, develop vocational skills, protect vulnerable children and respond compassionately to the needs of communities across Uganda.

Every programme we implement, every partnership we build and every child we support reflects the same lesson that began with one half-eaten apple:

Compassion has the power to change lives.

We believe that lasting transformation begins when ordinary people choose to care for one another.

OUR STORY CONTINUES

The Next Chapter Has Not Yet Been Written

Compassion Bridge Initiative Uganda was never intended to become simply another organisation. It was created to become a movement of people who believe that every person deserves dignity, opportunity and hope.

Today, children are staying in school. Women are rebuilding their lives. Widows are finding opportunities. Communities are becoming stronger. Partnerships are crossing continents.

Yet there are still many more children waiting for an opportunity. Many more families longing for hope. Many more communities ready to flourish if someone chooses to care.

Every act of compassion writes another chapter.

The little boy who offered half an apple will probably never know how many lives his generosity has touched. His simple act of kindness continues to inspire everything we do.

We believe the greatest changes in the world often begin with the smallest acts of love.
